Those who don't know my history,
may think Bachik, the Birthday Kiss
came completely out of the blue. To
some degree, it did, but not
completely. My first husband, Peter
Kalajian (deceased in 1997), was
100 percent Armenian.
Before Pete became ill, we often
visited his family where I experienced
much of the Armenian culture: food,
language, music, etc. I have great
memories of my mother-in-law
playing jumping, clapping games with
my little girl. Bachik, the Birthday
Kiss was written in honor of those
memories and the ones who shared
them with me.

Portions of the proceeds of this book will be
contributed to the Armenian Children's Milk Fund.
Founded in 1989, this charitable organization
provides life saving soy-based infant formula
and dry powdered milk to sick children and poor
infants in Armenia.

Andrea Kalajian of West Bloomfield, Michigan, is a versatile,
award-winning artist. She specializes in vibrant lively
paintings and continues her training both in the United
States and abroad. Andrea is currently earning a Bachelor
of Fine Arts from the California College of Arts.
